10TH ANNIVERSARY RQCC RAISES RECORD AMOUNT FOR CHARITY

The 10th Anniversary Barbagallo Royal Queensbury Championship (RQCC) held on Friday May 12, was always going to be grand, but the highlight of the milestone event occurred outside the boxing ring with a record-breaking, more than $350,000 raised for ToyBox International.

The luxurious new Crown Towers Grand Ballroom saw over 1,400 glamorous guests cheer on 18 brave boxers whilst digging deep for local charities and causes, including raising $92,000 for Perth Children’s Hospital to purchase a new, life-changing robotic arm.

The robotic arm donation was the first grant fulfilled from the 2017 RQCC event and the second addition at PMH, which will enable children such as nine-year old Olivia Riley with complex physical needs, to maximise and improve physical skills such as standing, walking, reach, grasp, grip and the use of two hands in play and function.

In 2016, Olivia was diagnosed with a brain tumour and post-surgery was unable to speak, move or even breathe on her own. Since her operation, Olivia attends the iRehab Unit at PMH three times a week where she uses their current Robotic Arm to help improve her strength and coordination while repairing neural pathways in her brain.

Olivia’s mother, Bianca Riley said the Robotic Arm has enabled Olivia to build up her strength in her right arm which was left paralysed after her operation.

“The Robotic Arm is great for building up Olivia’s core strength. The Arm can be set up for each individual child and uses games that can be made more difficult as the children develop their strength. It really is an amazing piece of equipment,” explains Mrs Riley.

Over the past ten years, funds raised from RQCC have improved the lives of thousands of Australian children by raising money for ToyBox International and other beneficiaries, including Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and Ronald McDonald House.

ToyBox International would like to thank the generous donors and auction bidders, who dug deep at the RQCC event and raised much-needed funds for the children we support and their families. The funds raised through the live auction items and donation pledges at RQCC allow ToyBox to continue the rewarding work we do for Australian children in need.
