Royal Queensbury Championship 2014

Royal Queensbury Championship 2014

Friday May 9 saw Perth’s biggest personalities and executives fill Crown’s Grand Ballroom for the seventh annual Royal Queensbury Championship proudly presented by We Are Loans.

The twenty fierce competitiors, who undertook a gruelling ten-week training regime at the Hurt Locker boxing gym in Claremont, made their way to the daunting ring with spectacular, creative and engaging entrances.

The boxers battled it out with ten bouts of three short, but very intense, two-minute rounds to determine who took home the coveted RQCC belt from each fight. Channel Ten personality Tim Gossage hosted the event again, and at the half time break encouraged everyone to get involved in the amazing luxury goods live auction. Get involved they did! Some of the merry crowd spent big on the amazing items and experiences up for grabs, including a signed Michael Schumacher racing suit, a stunning Anthony Lister artwork, a Mediterranean Cruise, and a Sunseeker and Herb Faust experience.

Included in the live auction was the opportunity from ToyBox International to fund a Camp Quality Family Fun Day or purchase a Walk Aide for children with Cerebral Palsy. The RQCC guests did not dissapoint, with an abundance of hands being raised to help out local Perth children in need.

Those that missed out on a ticket to the extravaganza were able to view the event via a live feed that showed the action in the ring and the post fight interviews with the boxers.

Fight Of The Night went to the very deserving Laura “THE EXPLORER” O’Brien Oxley and Jayde “VAN DAMME” Van Dijken, with both competitors putting on an awesome and intense fight through all three rounds. The Spirit Of The Event was awarded to Adam “DYNAMITE” Strauch, who showed commitment and sportsmanship all the way through the ten weeks of training and on the night.

Although there was much victory in the ring, the real winners on the night were Australia’s sick and disadvantaged children, with all the money raised going to the children’s charity ToyBox International.
