Thanks to ToyBox International, the children at Princess Margaret Hospital recently enjoyed a surprise visit from Scherri-Lee Biggs, ToyBox International Ambassador and reigning Miss Universe Australia.
Only in Perth for a quick break before jetting off to Brazil for the International Final, a visit to PMH was at the top of Scherri-Lee’s list of priorities.
Being surrounded by doctors, nurses and medical equipment is no fun way for any child to spend their day, and for a lot of the kids at PMH this is their reality for long periods at a time. So an unexpected visit from the current Miss Australia, homemade cupcakes in hand, is an extra special treat.
Delivering iTunes gift cards along with the cupcakes she’d made herself, the sunny Perth beauty spent some one-on-one time with the kids, posing for photos and signing autographs, before heading over to join Captain Starlight in the Starlight Express Room.
This room is a welcome retreat for the kids at PMH where Captain Starlight orchestrates a bit of fun and mayhem, and it also stocks the latest computer games, movies, crafts and activities. Kids too sick to leave their beds can join in the fun via the daily Captain Starlight shows broadcast to their bedside TVs.
With everyone in fits of giggles; Scherri-Lee and her two special little helpers gave Captain Starlight an interesting beauty makeover using vegemite, honey and sprinkles, as it was streamed live throughout the wards.
Anything that acts as a distraction can be extremely beneficial to a child’s recovery. Special visits like Scherri-Lee’s are a unique treat for the kids and are a welcome break from life in hospital.
