With the help of some stunning Miss Universe 2012 WA Contestants and a super cool West & Barbagallo Fiat 500, the people of Perth recently became acquainted with ToyBox through it’s friendly ambassadors, and dug deep for the children’s charity.
In conjunction with Miss Universe WA commitments that encompassed weekly boxing sessions, pilates classes, grooming and nutrition workshops, as well as parades and heats, a principal aspect of the program is the charity element. And this year’s Top 60 Contestants were no different to previous; enthusiastic and eager to give something back to the community, engage the public and spread the word, all while raising much needed funds for ToyBox kids.
Keen to undertake a new tool to maximise funds raised, the contestants embarked on a Raffle for ToyBox, with the first prize package including a sleek and sporty customised West & Barbagallo Fiat 500 Sport, complete with Thule roof racks, black OZ Racing alloy wheels, as well as a Star Surf surfboard, WEST steamer wetsuit and voucher, valued at over $33,000.
Over the summer months the first prize Fiat together with it’s charming posse hit the streets of Perth, the girls volunteering hundreds of hours to spread the word about ToyBox and sell as many tickets as possible.
Finding her involvement with ToyBox particularly inspiring and rewarding, Miss Universe 2012 WA Contestant Ana Davogic, has taken her contribution even further, and is now volunteering at Starlight Express at Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth, on a fortnightly basis.
Says Ana, ‘I really enjoy my shifts at Starlight, and have even had a couple of kids especially warm up to me. There is a little autistic boy who actually came up and told me all about himself which apparently he doesn’t do often. You only realise once you’re there how much the Starlight room means to them.’
Over 5,000 tickets were sold for the ToyBox Raffle, which is an absolute credit to the girls’ dedication, meaning many sick and disadvantaged children will benefit immeasurably from grants filled.
